Tribes vengeance which has a veery interesting gameplay. its done on large maps and you can jetpack. The most interesting aspect of the game is that you can skii. Say you see a valley, you can jetpack very high and then skidown the slope, jetpack up the other side of the valley. Because you skii'd down that valley you would've picked up alot of speed.
One of the guns is the grapple, which if used properly can give you shiiitloads of speed and its really fun. The most commonly played type is Capture the flag. So you can imagine that the grappling hook is really useful in this situation.
When you spawn in your base, you have the default loadout (weapons, which pack and armour). You move to an inventory station, and you make these loadouts that you can select easily because you've bound them to a key.
There are 3 loadout armour options. Light Medium Heavy.
Light has 75 hp and is the only class that can use the sniper rifle
Medium has 100 (i think..) and is slightly less manouverable but is the only armour that can use the buckler (Its SO Much fun, im still learning it)
Heavy is has 195, really unmanouverable and can only use the motar.
WEAPONS!
Spinefusor - Shoots a fast explosive disc, hard to shoot people in the air with so your better off aiming at the ground where the enemy will be. Has a medium fire rate.
Grenade launcher - Less powerful, arc'd version of the spinefuser but less powerful and faster fire rate.
Motar(Heavies) - Slowest fire rate, large damage and large area of explosion.
Chaingun - Use it for when the enemy is in the air, is a little OP but nice for chasing flagcarriers.
Blaster - Uses energy from your jetpack fast fire rate, shoots a burst of shots. Good in close range, havent used it alot. Apparently its really good if you know how to use it.
Rocket pod - Fires about 6 rockets that you guide, hard to use and havent found a great use for it - pretty fun tho.
Grapple - really nifty for gaining speed and essential if your a flagcarrier.
Sniper rifle - Has ten shots and uses all the energy from your jetpack, the more energy that you have available - the more damage you do. A full shot can kill someone in light armour, nearly kill a medium and it takes about 3 shots to kill a heavy. It takes about 20 seconds for your energy to regenerate so you cant just pop someone twice like that.
Burner - Another weapon that uses energy from the jetpack, very powerful, medium fire rate. Uses your energy fairly fast. However, it shoots a ball which explodes into fire 2 seconds after firing. When it explodes, the fire moves forward in a large area. If you can get good at predicting where someone will be, this is an AWESOME Weapon. Annoying as hell.
Buckler - MY FAVOURITE WEAPON! Its a shield, when fired it shoots a disc like a boomerang. Is really nifty if your good at using it with accuracy. Can shield user if bullets hit the buckler. Nice for when the opponent is in the air.
DIFFERENT PACKS YOU CAN USE!
There are 4 different packs to choose from. These are, Repair, Speed, Shield, Energy
Each has a passive and active effect.
Repair - Slowly regenerates users health (passive) When activates heals all allies and stations, including the user. Im discovering its really useful for those long fights.
Speed - Passively increases the rate of movement, guns reload a tiny bit faster. When activated, increase fire rate by alot for a few seconds.
Shield - Passively decreases amount of damage, when activated it reduces damage taken by 90% for 2 seconds. (Acctivate right before you get hit by motar or spinefusor)
Energy - Increases the rate of energy recovery passively, when activated gives a large burst of speed - essential for flagcarrying.
The gameplay is quite fun, you design a loadout which will be effective for what your doing. Example - Flagcarrying.
Armour : Light Pack : Energy Weapons : Spinefuzor Grenade launcher Grapple.
I dont really focus on the people defending or killing anyone, but spinefuzor and glauncher area really handy to spam so they move outta the way. Grapple for increased manouverability and the energy boost is brilliant for getting heaps of speed and escaping defenders.
Example - 1v1 Armour : Medium Pack : Repair Weapons : Buckler Chaingun Grenade launcher
Im medium for the buckler, also because i can take some damage and still not die, repair pack for the long battles so i regenerate health. In battle, i use grenade launcher when theyre close to the ground, when theyre in the air i use chaingun untill i have a good shot for predicting where they'll be with the buckler. Ive found that throwing a grenade with the buckler works very well too.
The audio for the game is that what you'll expect to find in every mainstream fps, except it has a little twist. It has several different voices you can choose from (Guy/Girl). There are tons of taunts Example (You fall better than you fly!) (Someone get a spatula) - things like that, and exclamations too (Shazbot) (Ah crap!) (Damnit!). Then there are the common things like (Hi!) (How are you?) (Hmmm). Also you have team sayings (Im about to die with the flag!) (Help!) (Ill attack their base!) (Ill defend our flag!). The best thing is, that each voice says these things DIFFERENTLY! With actual sound, and after about 2 hours of playing you can be quick to use these taunts. Example, if i wanted to say "Smooth" I'd hold down shift, press C twice, then D. Its really simple once you get the hang of it and really helps the flow and feel of it.
So overall i would give tribes about a 9/10, it has really addictive and fun online gameplay which is enjoyable with 6 people, or even 24. It can be frustrating and overwhelming at first (for me anyway) due to the fact because there havent been many new people so i've been up agianst pro's the whole time. Its extremely fun and addictive and uniqe to the other fps's that are out there.
