Console: Sega Genesis (PS port as well, but I haven't played that version)
Genre: SRPG
Graphics: 8
Given the time it was made in, Master of Monsters is top quality as far as graphics are concerned. Simple overmap sprites with very high quality battle sprites give a good sense of contrast. Plenty of variance in the monsters and their masters, with nice detail on the landscapes and maptiles. Some of the attacks could use a little more work, though.
Sound: 4
Okay, so it doesn't have the greatest music ever. The tracks are somewhat limited and the sound effects aren't very distinct from one another. The tracks they have are good, but very limited in choice.
Gameplay: 10
The gameplay in Master of Monsters is amazing. Everything has an affect on the use of your assorted units, making choosing the right units for the right jobs very important. The masters you choose (or are given in the campaign) from have their own set of monsters to command (though some repeat) and have control over an elemental force (the summoner has all 4, though). Control of towers and placement of your units, as well as magic can all play in to your strategy as well.
Basically, you have to play it...
Story: 0
Okay, so it has no story...
No, I'm serious.
An rpg with no story? WTF?
Yeah...I believe the PS version has one, though...
Overall: 7.5
A classic. Sure, their are a few instances of "Engrish" but it only adds a little humor to the mix. At least, I'm sure it should say "Roc" instead of "Loc."
hmmm.. i might have to go out and but a sega genesis and this game... where from? god knows! lols :P
meh? sega genesis? why have i no heard of this game? its old!?!
Suprisingly, I have the PS version somewhere.... it felt REALLY slow, lol. I was expecting something along the lines of Dragon Force, or Brigadine, but this just didn't end up doing it for me. Maybe I'll give it another chance, if I can dig it up and give it a whirl...
