Hi! Been a while. I just got a new job (bye bye Gamestop!!) at a laptop repair/retail store with a good bit of downtime. I hope this means I'll be on AA a lot like the olden days.

I miss this place! I miss these people!

/edit
also, my wacom's been busted for a long ass time. But I just found a guy that sells refurbished Intuos 4's for cheap! yay more arts

Hi Bacon. Whatever happened with that concert thing.

Balcom - December 29, 2009 12:07 AM (GMT)
Hiya, oh yeah! I got so busy I forgot to come back. Well, you guys helped a ton, and the videos we made helped a ton.

Basically, we got in the top 5 and played a super crazy show at a local club. The place was packed (read: 500+ people), and I wasn't nervous the whole night. that might not have been a good thing. Makes me think something is wrong in my brain.

Anywho. People were crowd surfing, screaming, I got a bra thrown at me. It was basically a cliche rock concert that we've never experienced before.

We didn't win, but another awesome band did, and deserved it.

Some dude who was apparently a talent scout for Universal records talked to us afterward and they are waiting to hear our 2nd cd. so that's cool. but big labels are dying very very fast, and i don't know if that'd be a wise decision. however, there is no other decision to oppose that with. so. heh. we'll see.

WHAT'S UP WITH YOOO DOOOD?

:ok:

Blue Farce - December 29, 2009 12:59 AM (GMT)
MY LAPTOP KEEPS CRASHING IS WHAT'S HAPPENING! CAN YOU FIX IT (for free I have no moneys) PLZ.

InColdBloodXx - December 29, 2009 05:05 AM (GMT)
I always read your name as "Bacon" instead of "Balcom."

Balcom - December 29, 2009 07:35 AM (GMT)
when does it crash? what are you doing when it crashes? does it just turn off completely?

ICB: bahaha understandable

Blue Farce - December 29, 2009 10:58 AM (GMT)
Randomly. Sometimes five minutes after I turn it on, sometimes after days from start up.

I dunno, whatever kind stuff. I think sometimes I'm opening up a bunch of tabs and/or Windows Explorer tabs.

Everything shuts down, so it's basically off, but the power button/light and the other assorted indicators stay lit, and I have to force a shutdown.

I've taken it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy a bunch, and they tell me it passes hardware inspections and crap, and that it's something to do with the OS/Virtual Drive getting corrupted. They did clean reinstalls of Vista to fix it, but no dice. I then bought and upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista hoping it'd solve it, but no dice again also.

Sometimes data disappears, usually after multiple non-data-disappearing failures. A bunch of crap and functionality disappeared before I took it in first - most of the shortcuts and stuff on the desktop, pretty much my entire Start program listy thing, such that it was "like new". This was after multiple failures.

When it happened eventually after the first fix, it was much more minor. I plugged my mouse in, and it had to reinstall the driver.

Geek Squad guy postulated it might be due to the system going for a system restore or something. Rolling back and such.

I checked the event log error thing, and noticed 3 entries under the "Critical" tag. All were kernel-power failures, so I now expect I might need a new battery or something.

Also Hi again Bacon!

Hay Balcom! I just showed up too!unlike you, i do not have a new job and still work at Gamestop. lol but its good to hear from you again.

LittleRedRodeo - December 30, 2009 12:28 AM (GMT)
Hola, Balcom! Long time no see~

Thanks for filling us in about the concert--it's a shame ya didn't win, but sounds like you had a fantastic time and a great experience anyway ;3 All about the music, right? That totally rocks about the label offer too, despite the risk. Means they like what they hear.
Keep us posted with what happens.

Andandand! Cheap refurbished Intuos 4s?

Balcom - December 30, 2009 05:58 PM (GMT)
Tinny: indeed! good to hear from you as well!

Red: Hi!! i will definitely keep you updated. and I've yet to see one of these intuoses, so i'll update about them later as well.

Blue: Damn.. I'm definitely not a tech guy, but I've been seeing stuff like that here and there. What machine do you have? I hope it's not a pavilion DV series. Also, my initial reaction was that it was something to do with the screen. If the screen goes blank and the indicator lights are still on, it could be lots of things. Inverter, maybe a motherboard failure? as for the other errors, i have nooo idea. but i will let you know if i see something like that here at the store.

Blue Farce - December 31, 2009 08:30 AM (GMT)
Um, yes. dv7 1135nr. Is that bad? D:

And the sound cuts out with the screen and everything, too, so I wouldn't think it's just the screen. Then again, what do I know.

Balcom - December 31, 2009 11:27 PM (GMT)
oh god.. yeah, google "hp extended warranty program" lots of the dv models are ridiculously defective. they made massive recalls because the processor and video card basically share the same heat pipes and melt. fun.
