Title: Live action anime films/shows
Description: What's your view on them

saru - March 24, 2009 11:08 PM (GMT)
I was gonna make this topic while I was at college today but had to catch a train haha and I don't think we have one...hmm. Anyways, thought it would be a good idea :D

1, What do you think about them?
Personally I think they can be really good or so horrible you are ashamed you watch the anime lol. I remember seeing a trailer for a live action Negima which looked horrible D: But I found both versions of the live action Nana films very good :) I don't really look into live action shows >.>

2, Any favourites?
Nana, both one and two, I thought it was done very well :) I watched them both before buying in the manga. Good actors were used and I just found the whole thing very nice :) Death Note the third movie just for the lols really, me and my boyfriend found it very good for an odd reason..I don't think many people like the Death Note live action films but they were okay :) The third one was just random with pink ice cream vans which I think is the main reason me and my boyfriend liked it xD

3, Any suggestions? New live action films/shows?
I can't suggest many cuz in all truth I haven't seen many myself. But I heard word of a Avatar film or something...Hmmm
Also, I have heard about a American remake of Death Note...And Zac efron might play light or something...Oh dears...*can imagine the HSM fangirls spamming death note* ... *signs*

:D

I've seen Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) and My Boss, My Hero. There were alot of cheesy parts, but of course, that's to be expected already. I liked both of them but more of GTO.

Destiny - March 25, 2009 03:59 AM (GMT)
I'll second GTO. It's one of my favourite jdramas.

Never seen live action Death Note, but i've seen the first Nana live action.. didn't like it though. That's not to say i hated it, but i found no reason to like it.

I hear the live action show of Hana Kimi wasn't too bad. Not sure if people were refering to the Taiwanese or the Japanese adaptation...

I've yet to see either though.

Evi - March 25, 2009 08:21 AM (GMT)
the Cutie Honey Live action movie was pretty sweet. it was so funny.

Hana Kimi was never made into an anime but the japanese drama based of the manga is really good.

nyx: its the jap version thats good. it truly is hilarious.. i think it has the NX haka in it near the end too.

tubenose - March 25, 2009 05:09 PM (GMT)
I forgot, but I also saw the "You're Under Arrest" live action. Wasn't necessarily the best but I still finished the whole thing. Thought the girls were cute, lol :XD:

THE LIVE ACTON EVANGELION MOVIE WILL BE AS TERRIBLE AS ANY OTHER LIVE ACTION ANIME MOVIE BUT THE SPECIAL EFFECTS WILL BE DONE BY WETA SO THE EVANGELIONS WILL BE SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL ILL CRY BLOOD

tubenose - March 25, 2009 05:23 PM (GMT)
i wonder if shinji will cry as much as in the anime.

Destiny - March 25, 2009 07:01 PM (GMT)
yer, im very curious to see how WETA will beautify Evangelion

Nyx - March 25, 2009 07:40 PM (GMT)
Wait a sec, do any of you guys remember that joke NGE trailer featuring Elijah Wood as Shinji and Kirsten Dunset as Asuka? lol

red - March 25, 2009 07:51 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen much live action when it comes to adaptations of anime and manga,

but I have seen a few episodes of the Jigoku Shoujo live. Good show, but the actors weren't very good. The anime is probably really good, though, based on how awesome the general stories of the episodes were. Don't know. Never got a chance to see the anime.

And I'm just gonna go out and say the Chinese live adaptation of InitialD is a movie that my brother and I both found quite good. I'm comparing it to movies like The Fast And The Furious and Redline, and it blows all of them out of the water.

Okay, Redline. Holy cock and balls.
Wing falls off of a Lamborghini.
For no damn reason.
Wait. It gets better.
Car then proceeds to sail into the air.
Like some kind of kite.
:ygrumpy:
A. This particular model came with a wing as an OPTION on some trim lines. I'm not an expert on which trim lines/model years came with wings and why, when, where, and how, but I know enough that some came with wings, some without, which tells you right there that it's not essential to road-safe aerodynamics.
B. If the wing even serves an aerodynamic purpose, it's more likely to reduce the vacuum behind the car by controlling turbulence, thus reducing drag, than to provide any downforce. Actually, I can tell by the shape and miniscule dimensions of the wing that it is most definitely 99.9% useless when it comes to downforce.
C. A wing on the REAR of a car does NOT keep the FRONT of the car on the ground.
D. It's a freaking LAMBORGHINI. Shit doesn't fall off of a Lamborghini.
E. The rest of the movie sucks exactly as much as this scene.

/off topic

Anyway, HELL YEA EVA!
I'm pretty damn sure it won't suck quite as much as everyfreakingbody lets on.
I mean, come on. It IS trying to be based on Eva.
Too bad it'll never freaking happen though.
I've lost hope.
Been expecting this movie for 4 years now.
I'm tired of waiting.
Well, we'll see in 8 months if this is going anywhere or if we're all told to wait longer at that time.

I hated the chinese Initial D.. ugh. I suppose it is better than the Fast and the Furious movies, though.

Also, yeah. Saw the first half an hour of it and turned it off. And I've never touched any of the Fast and the Furious films. They all look like shyte imo.

Also also. Holy crap, tube. I never knew there was a live-action adaptation of 'You're Under Arrest'. DDDD:

I'm gonna' check that out now.

FunkyMonkey - March 26, 2009 06:10 AM (GMT)
Are you guys excited for the Dragonball Z movie?

Also, I heard Akira is in the makes, but that's probably old news by now.

Destiny - March 27, 2009 01:16 AM (GMT)
Yeah, im looking forward to DBZ. Wait, no i'm not.

So, i just came across a d/l link for the 20th Century Boys live action. I don't wanna get my hopes up, but.. dammit, i hope to GOD this turns out good. It was such an amazing manga.

red - March 27, 2009 02:42 AM (GMT)
I saw the preview for DBZ...

My reaction. Enjoy:

:ygrumpy: That's seriously fucking coming out?

And Eva's not.

My, don't we have taste?
Mother shit.

Nyx - March 27, 2009 02:46 AM (GMT)
DBZ = Comedy of the Year.

red - March 27, 2009 03:06 AM (GMT)
I'll vote for that.

THIS

I saw the trailer for it a coupla days ago. My brain blanked for a good minute and... my soul died.
I didn't think it would actually look that bad.

Also, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is an anime film based on a live film.

The anime is translated into English as "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," and the live movie is officially called "The Little Girl Who Conquered Time." Same Japanese title for both, though.

Evi - March 27, 2009 05:34 AM (GMT)
Just finished Mei-chan no Shitsuji .

it was cute. totally sugary goodness... i want a hot butler.. :_:
i laughed when they started having explosions and fight scenes at the end..

Destiny - March 27, 2009 12:26 PM (GMT)
Well, i'm done with the 20th Century Boys live action.

It remained 100% true to the original manga.. i was quite surprised how accurate everything was. Some scenes were shockingly identical.

Even though everything was spot on with the manga, i felt they might've cut out quite a bit to fit everything into 2 hours. What was shown was great, but they were missing quite a lot of otherpieces from the manga which would've made a better sense out of things. It's not exactly a simple story to follow, so the little details are important.. As it is, it felt like i was rushing through a book, getting the key points and missing the finer details which make a more vivid image.

I'm quite pleased with it overall. The storytelling didn't seem very smooth (good thing i already knew the story, i guess), but i am extremely impressed at how they managed to make the scenes so stunningly accurate. You gotta watch this if you're a fan of the manga, it'll blow you away.

APPARENTLY the reason for Evangelion's delay is for Transformers - namely: they want to be sure there's an american market for Giant Robot movies.

PlatinumFyah - March 27, 2009 04:07 PM (GMT)
The only live action movies I've seen were Death Note and Prince of Tennis. Death Note was actually okay. I heard of an American remake.. and Prince of Tennis left me in a major puddle of wtf.

I stay the hell away from the PoT live action. I liked the anime, but fuck that.

So
Anyone hear that Keanu Reeves has been confirmed to play Spike in the live action Cowboy Bebop movie?
Oh.....Spike's going to be so....emotionless....
But, I'm still trying to get my hopes up for it
